Submissions

Loop is always looking for new inspirational imagery from both individuals and agencies across all areas of our specialism - Britain. We strive to offer imagery that evokes the essence of a place; strong, dynamic, visually arresting imagery that engages the senses and subverts the norm.

We are particularly looking for striking imagery in the following areas:

city(uk-wide), landscape, iconic, heritage, arts, lifestyle and what could loosely be termed quintessentially 'British' images.

Representing an exceptional range of contemporary photography, Loop is in constant pursuit of creative excellence. If you are passionate about photography and your profile matches ours, we'd like to hear from you.

Image Specifications

We have some strict technical requirements for images that are chosen to be integrated into the library in order to maintain consistency. These requirements are easily achievable provided you read the following advice.

File type

Images must be saved as TIFF files only (no RAW, JPEG, Bitmap or PSD files). You will be given the option of "PC" or "MAC" when saving TIFF images in Photoshop. Choose "PC" with no compression. Please flatten all TIFF files so that there are no layers.

File size
Scanned files

The recommended final scanned image file size is 50 MB, 8-bit RGB Tif in Adobe RGB (1998) - Colour Space (16.7 MB 8 bit gray scale Colour Space 'Dot Gain 20%'). Maximum file size is 80 MB. Images should be fully processed.

Digital camera files

The recommended final scanned image file size is 50 MB, 8-bit RGB Tif in Adobe RGB (1998) - Colour Space (16.7 MB 8 bit gray scale Colour Space 'Dot Gain 20%'). Maximum file size is 80 MB. Images should be fully processed.

If the original capture is not 50 MB then the file will need to be non-destructively interpolated to 50 MB. The three recommended ways are:
   • Adobe Photoshop RAW interpolation
   • Interpolation using the stair stepping method in Photoshop
   • Genuine Fractals
The best results for interpolation are obtained from professional cameras with a minimum capture size of 8 megapixels (24 megabytes).
Loop regard this as a minimum standard for submissions.

Location information

We need to know where each image was shot and this needs to be embedded into each file eg.

Place: Norwich, County: Norfolk, Country: England.

Captions and keywords

This is how clients find your images in the database - without this information your image will not show up in search results. Loop define them as:

Captions - describe in words what you can see

Keywords - are related terms outside the obvious visual context. For example, an image captioned 'child playing' may have the keywords 'female, child, laughter, colour, movement'.

Both caption and keyword text should be stored inside the image in the IPTC fields. IPTC is the industry standard method for attaching text to images for digital transmission and identification. This can be done using Photoshop. See under the File menu for File info and enter subject details under Caption and keywords under Keywords.

'File Info' can be entered in Photoshop before you submit your images. We only import the 'Caption', 'Keywords' and geographical IPTC fields. You can help us add your material quickly if you provide accurate captioning and keywording. This is time consuming but, being the primary way buyers find your images, a little work pays dividends later.

It is up to you to ensure that all caption details are correct, accurate and relevant, as errors in captioning can lead to all sorts of problems for the client. Commas or semi colons should separate keywords.

It is not necessary to repeat location and caption words within the keyword section because the software does this automatically.

Dirt/Dust

Images must be clean and free from all spots and blemishes. Images with marks on will be rejected.

Sharpening

Do not sharpen the images - clients prefer to do this themselves.

Bit depth and image mode

8 bit images only please. Scan to the highest bit depth possible then convert to 8 bit before sending the images. Please set the image mode to RGB and use Adobe RGB 1998 as your colour profile.

File name

Letters and numbers only please. Eight characters or less is ideal, as when burning images to media in ISO 9660 anything above eight characters will be shortened.

Media format

CD - ISO 9660
DVD - ISO 9660 or UDF format

Inclusion of information on the media

CDs/DVDs should contain TIFF image files only and no sub folders.
